Alphabet Soup--Letter O--Christmas Version
Alphabet Soup is hosted by Morning Glory at Seeds From My Garden. Why don't you go over to her place and get all the scoop on participating. We have fun with it every Wednesday!OOPS! I just checked at Morning Glory's and she is not hosting Alphabet Soup today. Hmmm--Oh Well, I have it ready to go up, so I'm going to leave it. I'll adjust next week!
Here is my list of things in my life that "bring me joy, happiness, or just plain humor." This is a Christmas Version of Alphabet Soup, brought to you by the letter O.
O Holy Night--One of my favorite songs of the season. It is definitely one of the carols that reminds me best that amidst all the hustle and bustle I must stop and remember why we celebrate--"It is the night of the dear Saviour's birth!"
Others--My husband and I enjoy the giving part of Christmas. It has always been one of our joys to choose gifts for our children. The shopping (online now), wrapping, and watching them open the gifts are highlights of our Christmas. We have also enjoyed sharing parts of Christmas through the years with friends. Our social life is somewhat limited now because of illness, but we still look forward to visits from friends during the season. We treasure the memories of parties, dinners, gift-giving, and visits we have shared with family and friends during this blessed season.Others also include people that we reach out to in ministry through gifts to the Christmas Toy Store, mission offerings through church, contributions to organizations like Second Harvest Food Bank, and my husband's writing through a radio ministry called Christ to the World. Any effort to help others, at Christmas or other times of the year, enriches our lives as well as those we seek to assist.
Orient--The story of the three Magi from the East is told in the song, "We Three Kings of Orient Are " The story was first told in Matthew 2. You can read it here.
Ornaments--Don't you just love putting the ornaments on the tree, recalling where or when you got each one, choosing just the spot you where you want to hang it on the tree. When you think about it, that is a strange custom! Exactly why do we do we hang ornaments on trees for Christmas? You can read the legend here.
Organization--Yes, it has something to do with Christmas! I have my decorations fairly well organized. However, I think this year before I put things away I will do a purge and downsize a little. That means I will have to reorganize the bins and boxes before they are put away for 2008. I may need to check this out.

Alphabet Soup--Brought to You By the Letter K
A good way to start the day--or, for a break in the middle of the day--or, even, to end the day. Yes, thinking of things that are good in your life is a just a good thing anytime. Alphabet Soup is the brain child of Morning Glory over at Seeds From My Garden. Go on over and see what she has for you today. I love KNOWING that these K things are in my life and plan to KEEP them around as long as possible.
Kevin--Our younger son. Kevin and his family are delightful! We love all of them dearly! Kevin is also the "money guy" for us. Having a CPA in the family certainly comes in handy at tax time and when we have other money related questions. This is also amusing to his Dad and me. At an earlier time in his life we would never have seen him in that role! I'm just sayin'!
BTW, you can meet his wife, Holly, at Soccer Mom.
Knowledge--I have always loved learning! There were times in my life when others would never have guessed this! I had TOO MUCH FUN! in High School and Freshman year in college for people to see me as a serious scholar! :-) But the learning bug did take hold later--I even went so far as to get a doctor's degree (Ed.D)! I know, I know! Why?! Well, I wanted to. AND--There was a great scholarship attached to it.
Kookies--Yeah, some one who loves knowledge should know how to spell better than that! But kookies (cookies) are good--especially chocolate chip ones.
Kisses--Yep, I can't leave those out. Of course kisses from the husband are nice--but I love those little grandchild kisses, too!
Kicks--I have spent many hours watching little children (sons and grandchildren) kicking a soccer ball. Fun! Fun! I don't get to go to the games as much now, but we enjoy the videos the parents occasionally share with us. Nothing like watching children learn what competition is all about--and how to play on a team.
Kids--Naturally, I love my kids and our grandkids! However, I had a professional career that was dedicated to kids--and knowledge. What a combination!
There are not many things in life more rewarding than watching, and helping, a child learn!

For me, Halloween is all about children having fun. Our neighborhood does not have through streets or a lot of vehicle traffic--just the people who live here. Actually there is no reason for anyone to cut through the neighborhood--You would just end up in the lake on one side or the woods of a restricted reserve and National Historical Landmark on the other. Which, of course, makes it the perfect place for trick-or-treating.
So--I've got to go get the candy ready for the big night! The weather is supposed to be dry and cool, but not cold. Which means--I better be ready for 'em, cause they will be a comin'!

There is a carnival atmosphere throughout the neighborhood. Families with children in wagons, a few decorated golf carts, and a couple of flat bed trucks with loads of kids--in addition to the groups walking with flashlights--are likely to be here. I close the door and turn off the light when it is obvious that all the little ones have gone home to bed. I'm not really into giving candy to older teenagers!

This is my first time to participate in Alphabet soup. I've been wanting to since MG started this fun exercise in letter/word matching a few weeks ago. Today seems like a good day for it. Here are some good things that begin with the letter F!
1. Family--Where would I be without all the people who are in my life because we share the same name or lineage. Love 'em!
2. Faith--the foundation of my life.
3. Frappuccino--I'll have a White Chocolate Mocha, please!
4. Friends--Real life friends are priceless. Blogging friends are a fun blessing.
5. Festivities--I love a party!
6. Flight--I love traveling to new, exciting, peaceful, or familiar places! I'm easy to please when it comes to traveling!
7. Flowers--This was a surprise! I was working on my list of words beginning with F when the door bell rang. The picture below shows what was on the other side of the front door. My precious husband knows I've been having some struggles the last few days. He sent this to cheer me up! It's working! Every time I walk past them I smile and my spirits get a lift!
